Heading to Tromso in December
Around Christmas, for four or five days, we'll be in Tromso, before taking a ship south along the Norwegian coast. That'll put us in the Arctic Circle, a place we'll explore and hopefully get to see the Northern Lights, as well as do a dog sled ride, see some reindeer, and get in some cross-country skiing. Aside from all that, we'll also spend the following four days heading south along the coast while stopping off at a lot towns and ports in the fjords and also viisiting the Lofoten islands. All of it will be quite a change from the Australian summer and give us a White Christmas.
Tromso is Norway's largest city in the Arctic Circle and a place where the sun does not rise at that time of year. Instead of sunrise we'll get around 5 hours of twilight a day, other than that we'll get lonnngggggg nights. Hopefully, with so much night, we'll get a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights.
I'm really looking forward to spending some time taking in the landscape, winter and the arctic vibe. I'm also looking forward to having a good look around Tromso, a city of 42,000 people, who live quite a different life to what I experience in Australia.
I'll also be doing a lot of research for my United States of Vinland series. I haven't visited Norway before, so I'm looking forward to immersing myself in the landscape as wella s checking out some particular loactions and museums.
When I'm there, I'll try and take a lot of pics and do one or two blog posts, maybe more. It depends how things pan out with the weather and internet access.
